March Premier League Team Of The Month 2023/24 – By Dan Dwamena

MFF March Premier League Team Of The Month 2023/24

March’s team of the month is here. The team takes on a 3-4-3 formation. Remember the MFF team now has players in the positions they occupy in the Premier League’s Official ‘Fantasy Premier League’.

Goalkeeper

Neto (Bournemouth)

Neto’s heroics in goal lead the Cherries to an unbeaten March as they took 10 points from a possible 12. Neto made 15 stops in the month and is now 5th in the league in saves with 102. In Bournemouth’s 2-0 away win at Burnley, Neto was on top form. He denied David Fofana in the first half, and then made a world class one-handed save to deny a free-kick from Jacob Bruun Larsen. The clean sheet at Turf Moor took him to 7 for the season which has him joint-3rd in the league. The Brazilian then made 7 saves as Andoni Iraola’s team came from 2-0 down to get a 2-2 draw at home to Sheffield United.

Defenders

Ben White (Arsenal)

White has proved to be an important figure as the campaign has progressed and he enjoyed another good month as the Gunners kept themselves firmly in the title race. They smashed Sheffield United 6-0 at Bramall Lane and White rounded off the scoring as he fired low into the corner. Mikel Arteta’s men then got a late 2-1 victory over Brentford at the Emirates Stadium and White assisted both goals. His cross to Declan Rice saw them take the lead. He then produced an even better cross for Kai Havertz to head in the 86th minute winner. Arsenal then defended gallantly to get a point away at Manchester City.

Cristian Romero (Tottenham)

Romero’s return from injury has been huge for Tottenham. He can be a hothead at times, but he has behaved much better as the season has progressed and the Lilywhites took 9 points from 12 in March, and he helped vastly. He contributed in an attacking sense as he put away a ball in by James Maddison to make it 2-1 as they went on to beat Crystal Palace 3-1. Romero produced a commanding performance at the back as Spurs got a massive 4-0 win at Aston Villa. The Argentine is 8th in the league in passes with 1,981, showing how pivotal he is to how Ange Postecoglou wants to play.

Antonee Robinson (Fulham)

The all-action American full-back’s March embodied what he means to Fulham. He is constantly up and down Fulham’s left-hand side and causes teams problems. In Fulham’s 3-0 win over Tottenham, the first of their two March clean sheets, he laid the first goal on for Rodrigo Muniz after escaping his man on the left-hand side and he picked him out with a good ball. Robinson leads the league in Interceptions with 72, as well as this he is joint-6th in tackles with 78.

Midfielders

Cole Palmer (Chelsea)

Palmer makes another appearance in the team of the month after more crucial contributions. In a short space of time he has become Chelsea’s talisman, and the sky’s the limit for him. Mauricio Pochettino’s men were heading for defeat at Brentford when Palmer picked out Axel Disasi to equalise in the 83rd minute. The Blues edged past Newcastle 3-2 in their next fixture and Palmer’s shot was flicked in by Nicolas Jackson to give them the lead. Palmer then scored a lovely goal to put them 2-1 up. They were held by 10-man Burnley to conclude the month, but Palmer scored both goals in the 2-2 draw. The first was a penalty, the second another brilliant left footed strike.

Moussa Diaby (Aston Villa)

Diaby did not clock up as many minutes as he would have liked in March, but he still managed to impact all of Villa’s positive results. Unai Emery’s men were 2-0 up away at Luton, before the Hatters pulled the game back to 2-2. Diaby came off the bench to supply the winning goal however, for another substitute Lucas Digne with a good cross to the back post. After a home drubbing by Tottenham, Villa got a point at West Ham. Diaby again came off the bench to assist, this time for Nicolo Zaniolo. The Villans ended the month with a 2-0 home win over Wolves, where Diaby started and opened the scoring with a good finish on his left foot from the edge of the box.

Alexis Mac Allister (Liverpool)

The Argentine may be playing deeper than he would have liked since joining Liverpool, but he has arguably been their best player this campaign and he really stood out in March. The Reds left it late to win away at Nottingham Forest, as Mac Allister’s clever turn and clipped ball in was headed home by Darwin Nunez in the 99th minute. Jurgen Klopp’s men then had a huge home match against fellow title challengers Manchester City. It was Mac Allister who salvaged a point as he scored a pressure second half penalty. The month ended with Liverpool winning 2-1 against Brighton and Mac Allister assisted the winner for Mo Salah with an incisive pass.

Heung-Min Son (Tottenham)

Tottenham’s captain has not seemed like he has lit things up this season but remains the joint-3rd top scorer in the Premier League. The Korean is also joint-3rd in assists too. Son just keeps out his teammate Brennan Johnson from this month’s team. He secured the three points in the 3-1 home victory over Crystal Palace with a clinical finish into the far corner. Ange Postecoglou’s men then got an impressive 4-0 win at Aston Villa and Son provided goals for Johnson and Timo Werner which either side of scoring an empathic goal himself. Spurs then bounced back from a defeat at Fulham with a 2-1 home triumph over Luton. Here Son got the winner in the 86th minute with a deflected strike.

Forwards

Antoine Semenyo (Bournemouth)

The Ghanaian forward took it upon himself to steer the team through March as top scorer Dominic Solanke cooled down a bit after putting himself in Golden Boot contention. The Cherries won 2-0 at Burnley to start proceedings and Semenyo got the second goal as his shot took a slight deflection. Andoni Iraola’s side then went 3-0 down at home to Luton but produced a stunning second half comeback to prevail 4-3. Semenyo scored the equaliser with a good turn and finish. He then bagged the winner with a powerful shot after finding himself in acres of space in the box.

Alexander Isak (Newcastle)

Isak continues to impress for the Magpies and has now put himself in the Golden Boot race. He opened the scoring in the 3-0 home win over Wolves with a close-range header after Bruno Guimaraes’ shot was saved. Eddie Howe’s men lost 3-2 at Chelsea where Isak scored again with an expertly taken goal as he shifted the ball and then bent it into the bottom corner. The Swede was at the double to complete March, as he scored two penalties when Newcastle came from 3-1 down to beat West Ham 4-3 at St James’ Park. Despite his injuries, Isak ended March on 14 league goals.

Rodrigo Muniz (Fulham)

Muniz continues to find the back of the net and despite Raul Jimenez returning from injury in March he cannot be dropped. Fulham convincing put away Brighton 3-0 and Muniz assisted the first for Harry Wilson, before he scored a well-timed header after a good ball in as Wilson returned the favour. The Cottagers surprised Tottenham in a 3-0 home win and Muniz copped a brace. The first was well taken after he was found by Antonee Robinson. The second goal saw him show bravery as he poked the ball while getting kicked. Marco Silva’s men were 3-1 down at Sheffield United however, they escaped with a point thanks to an acrobatic volley by Muniz as late as the 93rd minute to take the Brazilian to 8 for the season.
