MFF September Premier League Team of the Month – 2024/25
With September completed it is time for another MFF team of the month. September’s XI takes on a 3-4-3 formation and the spoiler is that the Premier League’s top scorer did not make the cut. Remember, the players are now in the positions they occupy in the Premier League’s Official ‘Fantasy Premier League’.
Goalkeeper
Robert Sanchez (Chelsea)
Sanchez kept two clean sheets in four games in the month, making 20 saves along the way. He is now 4th in saves in the Premier League with 25 altogether this season. He made 7 saves twice, one of those matches was away against Bournemouth, where he saved a first-half penalty from their new signing Evanilson. The Blues have a plethora of keepers on their books, but the Spaniard has repaid the faith Enzo Maresca has shown in him.

Defenders
Ibrahima Konate (Liverpool)
Konate began the season on the bench but is now the main partner for Virgil van Dijk at centre back for Liverpool. The Reds had two clean sheets in four September games and Konate played a big part. The French international also contributed well at the other end of the pitch, firstly he assisted Luis Diaz’s first goal against Bournemouth. He then headed the opener as Arne Slot’s men won 2-1 at Wolves. Konate is joint 3rd in the league in aerial battles won with 22 this season.
Joachim Andersen (Fulham)
Many were surprised at the fact that Crystal Palace allowed him to leave the club, and he is already proving his worth in his return to Fulham. Andersen’s standout game was a stellar performance as Fulham got a clean sheet in their last game of the month at Nottingham Forest as they won 1-0. The Danish international is comfortable on the ball but his aerial prowess has really stood out. He is joint 5th in headed clearances in the league with 17.
Gabriel Magalhaes (Arsenal)
Arsenal’s centre half continues to cause terror in the opposition penalty area at set pieces. He was solid at the back in their big win at their north London rivals Tottenham to begin the month, and he headed the winning goal in the second half. Gabriel was at it again as he headed Mikel Arteta’s men ahead in the 2-2 draw with Manchester City. At the other end of the pitch the Brazilian is 3rd in blocks in the league with 11 thus far.
Midfielders
Harvey Barnes (Newcastle)
Barnes has really been showing his worth recently for the Magpies. He scored a fine finish to give them the lead in the 2-1 victory over Tottenham at St James Park. Next up, Barnes fired an outstanding winning goal from outside the box as Eddie Howe’s men came from behind to beat Wolves 2-1 at Molineux. Newcastle fell 3-1 to Fulham at Craven Cottage but Barnes was on the scoresheet again as he slotted into the corner to make it 2-1.
Cole Palmer (Chelsea)
Palmer continues to be a star since signing for Chelsea. The Blues drew 1-1 with Crystal Palace to begin the month and Palmer assisted Nicolas Jackson’s goal. Enzo Maresca’s men won 3-0 at West Ham and Palmer scored a great goal on the break, shooting in off the post for the third goal. The England international concluded the month in the most empathic fashion becoming the first player in Premier League history to amazingly score 4 goals in a first half as Chelsea beat Brighton 4-2 at Stamford Bridge.

Luis Diaz (Liverpool)
Diaz has been on fire to begin the new campaign keeping him ahead of Cody Gakpo on the left side of Liverpool’s attack. He bagged a brace in the opening September game as Arne Slot’s team beat Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford, the second goal was a good low finish into the corner. The Reds bounced back from a home defeat to Nottingham Forest, with another Diaz first half double as they beat Bournemouth 3-0 at Anfield.
Dwight McNeil (Everton)
McNeil’s impressive form has helped Everton improve on a miserable start to the season. Sean Dyche’s men raced into a 2-0 lead before capitulating and losing 3-2 away at Aston Villa. McNeil had given them the lead, before his cross made the second goal for Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The Toffees finally got their first win of the season as they came from behind to edge out Crystal Palace. McNeil’s long-range rocket gave them the lead before he added a second with a finish from close range.
Forwards
Nicolas Jackson (Chelsea)
After a first campaign at Chelsea that divided many opinions, Jackson has made a good start to 2024/25 season. September, saw him give Chelsea the lead with an easy tap-in in the 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace. He was at the double in the first half of the 3-0 away win at West Ham, as well as assisting the third goal for Cole Palmer. The Senegalese then assisted Palmer again for the first of Palmer’s four goals in the 4-2 triumph over Brighton.
Raul Jimenez (Fulham)
Rodrigo Muniz started as Fulham’s main striker this season, but he has now been displaced by Jimenez. Jimenez showed good movement before giving the Cottagers the lead in the 1-1 draw with West Ham. He then opened the scoring with a good touch and low finish in the 3-1 win over Newcastle. Marco Silva has confirmed Andreas Pereira is Fulham’s penalty taker, but Jimenez took it upon himself to take the penalty duties off him and he converted for them to beat Nottingham Forest 1-0 to end the month.
Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa)
After an underwhelming August, Watkins is back displaying why he was so good last season. Villa came from 2-0 down to beat Everton and Watkins bagged a brace. First, he scored a header from Lucas Digne’s cross then he seized on poor Everton defending to level the game. The Villans were to come from behind to win again at home against Wolves 3-1, here Watkins scored their first with a deflected effort from close range. He finished the month with a goal and assist in a 2-2 draw at Ipswich.
