Footy On Top – the Saturday morning football talk show

As you know, we at musicfootballfatherhood love a good football debate. At the start of the 16/17 season I was flicking through the tunein app on my phone, going through my favourite stations on a Saturday morning and something caught my attention; a witty and humorous football debate that sounded like the conversation between me and my friends. Essentially I was listening to the mandem having a debate about which of the new managers are going to adapt to the Premier League the quickest! The show I was listening to was Footy On Top on On Top FM. The show is hosted by DubulDee and D-Man every Saturday morning from 1000-1200. I became an avid fan of the show as the weeks went on and listened in to their humorous and informative reflections on the past week’s games with a look to the weekend games. It was quickly apparent that these guys know there stuff. There footballing knowledge is second to none which allows them to have intelligent football discussions on a range of topics while keeping the mood light and entertaining.

So instead of listening to the dead tones and album filler material of mainstream ‘pundits’ like Phil Neville, Owen Hargreaves and Michael Owen, treat yourself to some relatable, informative and entertaining football punditry and tune into Footy On Top every Saturday morning!

INTERVIEW

When did you start footy on top?

We were on Bounce FM as guests in 2014. It was an Arsenal show hosted by DJ Dilute. We ended up staying on the station with our own show and then we moved to On Top FM in April 2016.

Why do you support the teams you do?

DubulDee – I support Liverpool and it’s all down to John Barnes, he was so inspirational.

D-Man – I support Newcastle and Barcelona. When I was 10 me and my best friend starting thinking about who we would support. I didn’t want to be a glory hunter so that ruled out Arsenal and Liverpool. Then I saw Andy Cole on TV playing on for a team in the first division. I found out the team was Newcastle so I started supporting them! My favourite player is Ronaldo and I’ve been supporting Barcelona since he was there.

Who’s going to win the league this season?

DubulDee – Chelsea

D-Man – City

Who’s going to get relegated this season?

DubulDee – Hull, Swansea & Sunderland

D-Man – Hull, Swansea & Burnley

What’s your favourite football memory?

DubulDee – It has to be Liverpool winning the Champions league final.

D-Man – Ronaldo (my favourite player) scoring 2 goals in 2002 world cup final.

What’s your worst football moment?

D-Man – Has to be the France 98 World Cup, when Ronaldo went off ill in the final.

DubulDee – Liverpool not winning league in 09. The worst thing is that Utd went on to win the league!

Will England ever win a cup in your lifetime?

DubulDee – NO!

D-Man – NO!

If you could manage any team for a day who would it be and why?

Both – Would have to be Barcelona, just to see Lionel Messi

Where do you want to take footy on top?

We want to be respected for our creativity and continue to mix the football talk with the banter. We want to use more visuals and be known nationally. In the future we also want to work with celebrities and influence podcasts and the media.
